The norm TS16949 only qualifies the development, production and quality assurance departments of the certified company, but not directly the quality of the produced products of the concerning manufacturer.

For having direct influence on the quality of passive components, the Automotive Electronics Council developed together with the companies Delphi Delco Electronic Systems, Visteon Automotive Systems and DaimlerChrysler the norm AEC-Q200-REV-C “STRESS TEST QUALIFICATION FOR PASSIVE COMPONENTS”. See table 11 and 11A for Quartz Crystals.

Differently from the TS16949, the norm AEC-Q200-REV-C defines in very restrictive manner all tests which have to be performed for crystal first materials, production process and crystal design. According to this, the norm AEC-Q200-REV-C specifies directly the qualitiy of the manufactured products.

The goal of the AEC-Q200-REV-C is to increase the transparency and the reliability for the customer using quartz crystals or other passibe components.

Due to the numberous recall actions of car companies in the recent time, many car drivers, car producers and their suppliers have been suffered by electronic defects. The loss of money and image for these companies is enormous.

The need for car electronics will increase presistently over the next years.
